The Rusty Gear 2012

If you are a fan of the Adult Swim shows Metalocalypse and The Venture Brothers, there’s a convention just for you! The Rusty Gear convention will be held in Natick, MA the weekend of June 28 to July 1. Here’s what the website has to say:

It’s a… convention, if you will, that aspires to be much more than just that. It’s a place where dethheads and superscience nerds alike can come together to explore the many fascinating aspects of these two shows and their characters. A place where artists, writers, crafters, and musicians can let their talents shine…

It’s also a place where a guy can walk around in a rubber butterfly bodysuit or a bright red dreadlock comb-over and finally feel at home.

Author Appearance: John Lithgow

Actor John Lithgow, who has appeared in a wide range of projects over the years including (among many other things) the movie The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension and the TV show 3rd Rock from the Sun, will be reading from his memoir Drama: An Actor’s Education at the First Parish Church in Cambridge, MA on September 30th at 7:00pm. Advance Screening of “Torchwood: Miracle Day”

A free advance screening of the premiere episode of “Torchwood: Miracle Day” (which will normally air on Starz) will be held at the Kendall Square Cinema in Cambridge, MA July 6th from 6:00-8:00pm. Note that the website says “Please note that seating is limited by capacity. No RSVP or ticket is required as seating is first come, first served. This screening is rated TV-14 and contains mature content. Must be 14 or older to attend.” There will be screenings in other cities as well, but this is the only one in New England. Hooked on Who

The Brattle Theatre in Cambridge, MA will be hosting a new round of “Hooked on Who” featuring episodes of “Doctor Who” on the big screen. There will be a special focus on episodes featuring two actors who’ve been lost recently, Nicholas Courtney and Elisabeth Sladen. All shows are at 9:30pm:

Friday, June 10th “Terror of the Zygons” (in tribute to Nicholas Courtney)
Saturday, June 11th, “The Hand of Fear” and “School Reunion” (in tribute to Elisabeth Sladen)
Sunday, June 12th, “The Eleventh Hour” and “The Doctor’s Wife” (starring Matt Smith as The Doctor)
