On Friday, September 4th (rain date Saturday the 5th), from 6-9:30pm, Union Square in Somerville will be filled with the scent of chocolate, snozzberries, and who knows what else when the classic 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory will be shown for free in enchanting Smellovision! What in the world is going on?
Calling all scent-loving cinemaphiles: bring your nose for cinema to a free outdoor screening of the 1971 film–Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory–in Smellovision! It’s Willy Wonka as you’ve never smelled it before– guided by the wacky inventions of oompa-loompa scent technicians that are “ninety-three percent perspiration, six percent electricity, four percent evaporation, and two percent butterscotch ripple.” Viewers are encouraged to arrive early to engage in scent experimentation and visit local restaurants for special Wonka food offerings.
