Fort Knox Pirate Festival

A Pirate Festival will be held at Fort Knox in Prospect, ME on July 17 (rain date July 18) from 10:00am to 3:00pm. According to the Friends of Fort Knox website:

Join the professional Pirates of the Dark Rose for a day of swashbuckling sword fights, duels, cannon fire and pirate ship attack. The pirate ship “Must Roos” will let loose cannon fire on the Fort as she sails the waters of the Penobscot River, in search of booty. The festival will feature a treasure hunt, pirate parade (all are encouraged to attend dressed in your best pirate attire), best dressed and most authentic sounding pirate contests. Regular Fort admission and a $3 per person event donation requested, because pirates love their gold! Those planning to spend the day may want to bring a lunch.

Boston Zombie March VI

I just found out about this one: the undead are scheduled to gather tomorrow, May 29th, at 3:30pm outside of South Station in Boston, MA, and will go on to terrorize the population from there. Zombie survivors and protesters are also welcome. Visit http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=406261746152 for the gory details. Note there will also be a “Silent Rave” afterparty at 7:00 or so at Faneuil Hall in which the zombies will all dance to the music on their own iPods — see http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=111040932268542. Unfortunately neither link is available to the non-Facebook enabled, but if you’re at South Station at 3:30pm I suspect they’ll be hard to miss.

2010 NYC Convention Showdown Resolved

Back in October I posted about the comic convention showdown in New York City, in which rival conventions Wizard World’s Big Apple Comic Con and the New York Comic Con were scheduled for the exact same weekend. Well, it seems that Wizard has blinked: Big Apple Comic Con is now scheduled for the weekend of October 1-3. New York Comic Con gets to keep the weekend of October 8-10. This reshuffling is what caused Wizard’s New England Comic Con to shift to October 15-17. You can now have three weekends in a row of total comics immersion if you wish!
