The Rhode Island International Horror Film Festival will terrify the citizens of Providence from October 22nd to the 25th, 2009. It’s time once again to award the Ig Nobel Prizes, which go to real scientists who’ve been conducting real research into oddball subjects; in previous years the topics have included the legal rights of plants, the jumping power of fleas that live on cats vs. dogs, and the effects of armadillos on archaeology. The prize ceremony will be held Thursday, October 1st, at 7:30pm (pre-show entertainment starts at 6:45) in Sanders Theater, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA. If you can’t make it, the ceremony will also be available as a webcast. Additionally, on Saturday the 3rd at 1:00pm at MIT, you can attend the Ig Informal Lectures, during which the newly-anointed Ig Nobel winners will attempt to explain themselves. Tickets are on sale now. For more information visit http://improbable.com/ig/2009/.
Some folks just can’t resist getting up in front of their favorite musical movies and singing/acting/reenacting along. With the introduction of “BTVS: Once More With Feeling,” “Repo! The Genetic Opera” and “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” (frequently done for charity), it’s not just Rocky Horror any more. Rather than list every show one of these groups has in store, particularly during the Halloween season, I’m going to list all the shadowcast groups I can find in New England, and let you take it from there.

All that being said, I do want to call attention to one particular performance: On October 30th, at the Northampton Academy of Music, Repo! The Genetic Opera will be shadowcast by the group Genetic Imperfection with special guest star Terrance Zdunich, cowriter and star of “Repo”.
According to http://community.livejournal.com/millionyear/57261.html, the appearance by Chris Claremont at Million Year Picnic has been postponed until November.
Actually, it’s been slightly more than a year — the first post for this blog went up on September 16th, 2008. Thanks for reading!
