NecronomiCon 2013

NecronomiCon is a convention for fans of horror writer H.P. Lovecraft, being held in his home of Providence, RI the weekend of August 22nd–25th.

NecronomiCon Providence is a many-faceted convention exploring the works of Howard Phillips Lovecraft and fellow writers of Weird Tales, past and present.

Our theme is The Rational and the Supernatural – an exploration of the intersection of science and art that lays at the foundation of the “Cthulhu Mythos” genre.

We seek to pay proper homage to The Old Gentleman of Providence and his literary offspring, including numerous activities to highlight the town HPL loved and called home – PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island.

TempleCon 2013

TempleCon is a “retrofuture”-themed gaming convention that will be held in Warwick, RI the weekend of February 1-3, 2013. The convention is in its eighth year, and this year’s theme will be “Biopunk.”

Founded in 2006, TempleCon is a celebration all things with a Retro-Futurist theme, right next door to one of the coolest cities in the world, Providence, Rhode Island. While we suppose you could call TempleCon a convention, as many are quick to do, it’s a bit more than that. It’s really a three day festival of modern hobby gaming and Retro-Futurist fandom, including events, performances and activities from all the genres out there that you can think of, and probably some that you can’t. It’s also a social event, which means that while we’re all about the entertainment, we’re even more about the people who love it. We started TempleCon for a lot of reasons, but one of them is because we think that things gaming and fandom need to finally be dragged out of the basement and into the ballroom. TempleCon breaks a lot of the long-standing rules of “geek” conventions, and offers up a diverse event full of wild parties, great games, live music, crazy performances, guests, workshops, vendors, and a ton more stuff that we think you’ll like.

2010: Our Hideous Future: The Musical!

The theater troupe Unreliable Narrator is on tour with the cyberpunk musical comedy “2010: Our Hideous Future: The Musical!”

Itʼs the way far distant future, AD 2010, and itʼs a bad time to be human. Lonely human freedom fighter Kate Brick plans a last stand against the oppressive Artas, artificial life forms who control humankind through torture, brainwashing, and Foursquare. But judging by the apathy of her lover Dehnise Compuserve and of her fellow humans, it may be too late.

2010 is a synthpop-infused, queer-friendly musical comedy homage to the great dystopian classics of the 1980s and ’90s. Playwright Carl Danielson brilliantly riffs on classics like Blade Runner, Max Headroom, The Matrix, and Snow Crash. Meanwhile, local songwriter/audio producer Andy Hicks (of The Pluto Tapes) provides delightfully twisted tunes like “Near Futuristic Dystopia!” and “Bangor Boogie.”

There are two shows coming up in New England:
July 11 at 8:00pm at 95 Empire in Providence, RI
July 21 at 8:00pm at Griffen Theatre in Salem, MA

See for details.
